Brian Dunham

Music Publisher

Brian Dunham did his 3 year apprenticeship in Rights Administration in the Music industry whilst at the Mechanical Copyright Protection Society between 1966 and 1969.

Having joined Virgin Music as their Copyright Manager Brian worked his way up to the General Manager position and had the pleasure of working with Artists such as The Police, The Human League, ABC, Culture Club, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Mike Oldfield, The Ruts, The Members, Leon Russell and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

In 1982 Brian left to use his skills in Music Licensing and as an Independent Licensing Consultant specialising in Rights Licensing for Music Television.  From 1982 to 1984 he worked on "The History of Rock", "Soul Train", "Earsay", "Top C's and Tiaras" and "The A-Z of Country Music".  Brian was invited to join Mercury Music - Music Publishing Division of Granada TV as their Catalogue Development Executive.  During this spell with Granada TV he was asked to sort out the rights for release of the 'Marc' TV series in video format.  It was during these negotiations that Brian was offered the opportunity to work with the Wizard Music [Publishing] Catalogue.

Brian then ran a small publishing company called Tembo Music for Roger Whittaker.  Roger was still hugely successful in Germany but was looking for fresh initiatives in the USA.  During these two years with Tembo Music, Brian placed an album deal with Heartland Records for Roger Whittaker and arranged the video shoot for the advert that went out across the US on TV.  The album went on to sell over a million copies in the US.

Having started work with Wizard Music [Publishing] Catalogue back in 1985, Brian began immersing himself in promoting the catalogue for synchronisation usages.  It was in the early 1990's that "Born To Boogie - The Movie" was released on VHS through Picture Music International but it only enjoyed a modest success.  After 6 years of persistence Brian managed to strike the deal with Ringo Starr and Sanctuary to secure re-issue of the movie in DVD format.

Brian was appointed Executive Producer to bring this project to fruition.  He managed to bring together such people as Tony Visconti, Bill Legend and, of course, Rolan Bolan –  all very important in the Bolan world - to work with Sanctuary. Together they put Marc Bolan & T.Rex back at the top of the charts and back on the top shelf with the release in May 2005 of the cleaned up and restored full version of "Born to Boogie - The Movie" plus extras.

In the 2000's Brian has co-produced numerous Marc Bolan projects including...

  • The sell-out concert at the Shepherds Bush Empire in 2007 named "The Celebration".  The show was recorded for release on DVD through Liberation and will be made available again through Demon.

  • “Bolanesque” – a Marc Bolan meets Cirque du Soleil Cabaret Show at the Café de Paris to celebrate what would have been Marc Bolan’s 60th birthday.

Brian has always had a vision to unite the best T. Rex songs into a Musical.  This brings us up to the present time where between Brian and Nicky Graham hope to realise this vision and bring Marc Bolan's life and music to the West End theatre stage.
